POSITION:
Language Expert/Teacher - Licensed Preschool Program
STATUS: Non exempt, Full Time (35 - 40 hours per week)
PAY RATE: $12.50 - $16.50 per hour plus benefits (initial 3 years, vacation accrued at 9.33 hours per month; after 3 years, 12.25 hours per month; sick time accrued at 7 hours per month; medical benefits $150 per month; retirement plan
REPORTS TO: Site Director
DIVISION: Children’s Programs
GENERAL DUTIES:
Language Expert/Teacher is responsible for the general supervision, management and assurance of the safety, security and well being of each child in the program. Responsible for the development of the preschool language curriculum specializing in French or Spanish
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Responsible for ensuring the safety and well being of every child enrolled in the Children’s Center
• Responsible for the development of the preschool language curriculum specializing in French
• Assist staff with the implementation of the French curriculum
• Plan, supervise and implement the daily activities for the Children‘s Center in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Harmonium, Community Care Licensing
• Develop the activities around the individual needs of the children and their different levels of development and pace of learning
• Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each child enrolled in the program
• Manage and record daily activities of children
• Maintain a neat and organized classroom
• Encourage children to establish good habits of personal hygiene and assist with toileting and hand washing
• Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Center at all times
• Treat all children with dignity and respect. Be considerate of individual children in relation to their cultural and socioeconomic background
• Maintain positive relationships with parents. Know all of your parents, always greeting them in a friendly and direct manner
• Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping tasks
• Represent program by attending site, school and community functions as requested
• Attend staff meetings/trainings and Advisory Board meetings as required
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Native French speaker
• High school diploma or GED
• Experience in interacting with preschool children in a child care setting
• Minimum of an Associates Degree including 9 units completed in Early Childhood or Child Development (3 units in Infant/Toddler for the Infant Program) and continuously enrolled to complete at least two additional units each semester until fully qualified. (12 units)
• Pass physical exam, TB test, Criminal Record Clearance and Fingerprints and all other state license requirements
• Current Adult, Child, and Infant First Aid/CPR required
• Ability to relate well to children and adults
• Expressed commitment to the program and its philosophies during the term of your employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
• Ability to operate computer
• Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching above, and below the shoulder
• Ability to lift and carry up to thirty pounds
