San Diego and PACA Region of France Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Memorandum of Understanding

San Diego and the Provence region of France signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday to build on growing commercial connections.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Bernard Deflesselles, regional vice president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, signed the agreement in a ceremony at the San Diego Central Library.

Stretching from the Italian border to the Mediterranean Sea, the PACA region has a population of five million people and includes the cities of Marseille and Nice.

San Diego and PACA share similar industries such as biotech, defense, aerospace, software development, cleantech, bluetech and tourism.

“San Diego and the PACA region have so much in common: our biotech, our tourism, our trade,” said Faulconer, describing the agreement as a “road map to new opportunities.”

Speaking through a translator, Deflesselle said the agreement “brings two regions together around emerging technology.”

The agreement builds upon existing successful business relationships already established through Biocom and Eurobiomed, and the Maritime Alliance and Pôle Mer Méditerranée.
