MOTUL lubricants history dates back to the Swan & Finch company of New York, 157 years ago, starting in 1853! By the 1920’s there was various lines of products like Aerul, Textul, and of course Motul. In 1932, the Supra Penn Company became the European importer. In 1957, they purchased the entire operation and moved it to Europe, where it has remained under the same private ownership for 77 years! In 1986 Motul started exporting automotive and powersports products to the USA and in 1989 Motul opened Motul USA, Inc. as their subsidiary and official importer! Motul now has its own operations in France Germany, Italy, Spain, Singapore and the USA covering more than 80 countries! Motul has multiple state-of-the-art production facilities and laboratories to guarantee the utmost quality possible.
Motul is credited with Europe’s first Semi Synthetic automotive engine oil in 1966, in 1971 Motul created Century 300V the FIRST 100% synthetic automotive engine oil being the first in the industry to use esters for motor vehicles!
Motul is focused on becoming the market leader of EUROPEAN OEM REGISTERED and “OFFICIALLY APPROVED” LUBRICANTS. The designs of engines and lubricants are increasingly integrated, and car manufacturers are issuing ever more precise oil standards. When only a few years ago the oil requirement depended solely on whether your car was “gasoline” or “diesel”, many more parameters now need to be taken into account. Such as, PD-TDI (Pumpe Düse Turbo Direct Injection), Variable cam timing, (DPF) Diesel Particulates Filter, Impact on pollution control devices, and Impact on air pollution. Easy maintenance for a busy owner, with less down time.
In Europe, drivers of small turbo engines are accustom to service intervals longer than 12,000 km (7,500 miles). Certain oils and engines with on-board computers even allow up to 50,000 km intervals (over 30,000 miles)!
When the standards of the American Petroleum Institute (API) do not follow the pace of engine developments, European car manufacturers must issue oil standards through their own organization (ACEA), or more frequently now the OEM must test and produce their own unique standards!
Motul produces SPECIFIC oils that cover the UNIQUE standards of BMW, MB, VW, Porsche, GM/OPEL, Ford, and Renault. Motul also produces a full line of API and ACEA registered engine oils that do not require a specific OEM approval!
Currently, Motul produces nine (9) specific OEM registered and approved engine oils. The specific only labeling helps the customer and technician alike to identify its application! Motul has a line of Multi-OEM approved 100% synthetic engine oils that cover an impressive 8 ACEA approvals, 3 BMW approvals, 5 MB approvals, 9 VW approvals, 3 Ford approvals and two Porsche and Renault approvals.
Motul is driven to be the complete provider of European oils NO MATTER WHAT your engine calls for!
